Establishing a Kidney Dialysis Unit at Abu Al Qasem Hospital
With funding from Islamic Relief USA and in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MoH) Islamic Relief established a kidney dialysis unit—consisting of six fully equipped kidney dialysis machines— at the Abu Al Qasem Hospital in Yatta.
Reducing the cost and time spent by kidney patients to get the needed health services was the cornerstone of this project.
There are 28 patients in the town of Yatta and the surrounding communities who are in need of an average of three sessions of kidney dialysis per week, with each session lasting for 2-3 hours. These patients had to utilize the nearest kidney dialysis facility available at the Alia governmental hospital in Hebron.
However, easy and timely access to facilities at the Alia hospital is sometimes unavailable due to checkpoints and movement restrictions. Moreover, the kidney dialysis facilities available at the Alia hospital are operating beyond capacity, leaving the 120 patients in need of kidney dialysis in the Hebron District with limited access to timely, good quality health care services.
