IR starts youth empowerment project through vocational training and establishing income

Sponsored by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser (Fakhoora Program) and Islamic Development Bank, Islamic Relief started the youth empowerment project through vocational training and establishing income generation projects aiming to improve the capabilities of a number of young Palestinians to prepare them for entering the marketplace.

The project, which values 630 thousand US Dollars, targets 100 jobless young people in Gaza Strip where 20 are of special needs. They were chosen according to criteria such as their economic and living conditions. The project includes intensive vocational training for 3 months in vocational fields chosen by the beneficiaries and later on they will have administrative training to help them manage their own businesses.

After this stage, 50 of the beneficiaries will be selected to establish income generation projects for themselves. The other 50 will be given temporary employment for 6 months. Both groups will be encouraged to enter the market whether through micro projects or employment in a professional institution.

Salah Tayeh, IRPAL Programme Manager, said, “The project targets a very essential category in the society which is graduates. The vocational training will be implemented in 8 various fields which are car electrical maintenance, mobile repair, computer repair, computer programming, web page design, photography and montage, sewing and embroidery and food making.”

Mr. Tayeh added, “The project includes administrative training that helps beneficiaries get skills in how to admin their businesses such as feasibility studies, counting profits and losses and how to market their products.

It is worth mentioning that this project is one of the development projects implemented in Gaza Strip and it will be implemented in cooperation with The Community College of Applied Science and Technology.
