Celebrating Child Day in Gaza

Hundreds of Gaza Strip orphans celebrated the Palestine Child Day with Islamic Relief in Gaza City. Children enjoyed and joyfully reacted to the various sections of the celebration which included competitions, plays, fun games, prizes and gifts.

Islamic Relief aimed in this day to alleviate the hard conditions children living in as they lost their fathers and pass through difficult psychological circumstances so they were involved in such recreational and useful activity where all got presents and gifts.

In this day, 550 orphans who are sponsored through Islamic Relief participated. Those children were selected from all Gaza Strip governorates and who have not been selected previously for any recreational activity or trip. Islamic Relief sponsors over 5000 orphans in Gaza Strip.

Eman, 10-year old girl from Khan Younis, was running happily after she has got her gift. "I enjoyed the day very much, playing, singing and competing..", said Eman. "It's the first time to receive a present since a long time, thank you Islamic Relief and I hope we have more trips and fun."

Lina Taha, Orphans Activities Coordinator at IR said, "We are happy to see the joy among children especially that those children are disadvantaged and deprived from such fun days. They had a beak today from exams and tension and they got gifts and new clothes."

She added, "Thanks to Almighty Allah then to all those who contributed in drawing a smile on the orphans' faces and making them optimistic in such hard situation in Gaza Strip."

This activity is one of the Child Welfare Programme activities that are implemented in support of the children of Palestine. Activities include: distribution of winter clothes, health care, school bags in addition to the one-to-one sponsorship programme for orphans.
